“I think what matters to God and what actually glorifies Him is that you do life His way. That you live in such a way that God’s activity is actually visible in your life. And not just your words.” Steven Furtick, Pastor
If we do life God’s way in the area of abortion, what does that mean? There are people in church each weekend who profess Christianity, but their mind tells them that women have a right to abortion, that abortion may save a woman and/or her child from poverty, unmet needs, or a bad life. A life of suffering.
And of course God wouldn’t want us to suffer in this life.
Or would He??
- Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,…James 1:2 (NIV)
- Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
- And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:10-11 (NIV)
- In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 2 Timothy 3:12 (NIV)
- Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered… Hebrews 5:8
Are we given a pass on suffering? No. But we have a God who knows our suffering and he has compassion on us, and holds out His hand of comfort, if only we would take hold.
- Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 (NIV)
